Thursday was AWESOME!

What a full day. Many things were completed or nearly completed. No rain today, for the first time. Lots of tiling, painting, floor painting and digging.

We got a visit from our dear friend Jhony with whom we have built many of the buildings in this complex. He took time off of work in order to travel to visit us.

We also took a long walk along the countryside with our friend Arle. Colombia is beautiful and so are its people. Our hearts are full. One more day.

Wednesday is in the Books!

Today we got a lot done, but it ended on a frustrating note. We completed the tile on the laundry room, finished up the paint on the laundry room, and got a long way down the road towards painting the kitchen. BUT, it rained quite a bit starting at 4pm and we didn’t complete as much as we had hoped. We don’t know yet whether the rain washed away out paint. Furthermore, the storm knocked out our power right in the middle of dinner prep. It is still out hours later. We were able to finish cooking because everything is gas here. So I’m posting this in the dark and hoping that we have power for tomorrow’s tasks.

The Beauty of Being Six

The beauty of being six is that last year, we played. This year, we worked. Daddy, what can I do? Daddy, did you think of a chore for me?

Yes baby girl, it’s time you learn how to paint. And paint she did. She even got most of it on the walls! And this is what I wanted most, that she gets involved and has a stake in it. It’s not just Mom and Dad’s trip anymore, it’s hers now too!

Day One in the Books!

We had a great day painting and tiling the laundry facility. We attempted to tile the back porch, but the rain storm stopped that project short. So we all went inside to finish off the painting. Tomorrow, we tackle the massive kitchen facility!

The Hogar de Cristo

This is the site of the future orphanage called Hogar de Cristo. We have spend many years helping bring this project to fruition. It is going to be a beautiful home some day soon, populated with beautiful kids.

In the distance, the last building you see is the kitchen we helped build last year. This year, one of our tasks will be to help paint it.

Below is the crew that will begin the journey tomorrow morning!
